Using built-ins to maximize space

MudroomsIf you have limited space in your home or you are in dire need of storage space then using built-ins to maximize space is the may just be a viable option.  You would be hard pressed to find a home now a days that does not have its fair share of accessories, sports euipment and other items!  A means of storing these items so that they are not occupying physical floor space can be a challenge!  Depending on your style and budget there are so many possibilies when it comes to modern and affordable built-ins.

Listed below are some of the areas where you can make use of built-in storage to maximize space. They are:

  • Foyer: The foyer is the introduction to your home and it is often the busiest spot in the house and the most cluttered!  To get the most out of your entry consider how you use it.  If you just need to hang a few coats and pairs of shoes then a tidy row of hooks behind the door and a neat storage bench will do. For families with kids and busy lifestyles individual cubbies may be a better solution.
  • Bedroom: You can add functional space in your bedroom by opting for a built-in clothing storage perfectly detailed with accent lighting. To achieve a pulled together look, use complementary style and colours to the furniture and décor items currently in the space.
  • Livingroom: Your bookshelves do not have to be bulky, large pieces of furniture that only end up taking up more space in the living room; by using built-ins to maximize space in your living room you can acheive a streamlined clean and modern look. A nice alternative to a built-in bookshelf would be to add an array of “Floating” shelves.
  • Kitchen: The last but not the least, do you know that you can hold your kitchen appliances in built-ins in order to have more space? A permenant space for your small appliances really helps keep the kitchen neat and organized.
