Water damage is a great concern as it not only spoils your furniture and damages your home structure, but also create a breeding ground for molds if not restored properly. Check to see if there are any hidden water leaks in your home. Before stepping out of home, make sure you turn off all the appliances that use water. You may also keep a note of the meter readings to ensure that there are no water leakages inside your home. The meter reading changes even when you haven’t used any water appliances, chances are that you have a leakage in the home.

First check your kitchen area, particularly the dishwater to see is the water pipes leading to it have any leaks. If you see stagnant water surrounded in the base of the dishwasher then there’s a leak. Alternatively, if the materials surrounding the dishwasher are faded or warped then this too indicates that there’s a leak.

The kitchen sink can also be the reason for water leakage. As the sink is used extensively, you should get it re-caulked around frequently to avoid any water damage in the kitchen area.

Another common culprit for water damage is your refrigerator with inbuilt ice makers so check if there’s a leakage there. Keep a check on the ice maker to ensure that there are no water leaks in that area. The line to the ice maker should be attached firmly.

If there are signs of discoloration in the bathroom then this indicates water damage. Look for the soft spots around the edge of the shower or tub. You may consider repairing the areas where the walls meet the floor, or the walls meet the tub to help solve this problem. Another obvious case of water damage is the overflow of toilets, so make sure that the pipes are not leaking.
