Dos and Don’ts For A Studio Apartment

A small sized studio apartment can be a blessing in disguise, so instead of complaining about the space, you may think of the positive things you can do to brighten up the area and make it cozier. The key is to make sure that you do not over clutter the area or underplay when designing and decorating your apartment.

Do choose the right colors. To start with, if you have very limited space in your apartment, choose the right colors that will make the area look airy and big. Although you may like the rich emerald green walls or heavy furnishings, they will make the space look cramped. So, choose a lighter shade when coloring your walls and furnishing your home. Also use some mirrors to make the area appear bigger.

Don’t color your home all white. Many people have the misconception that all white will make the area look spacious, however this is not true. White definitely makes the space look bigger, but at the same time it also gives an unfinished look to your home. So, instead of going all white, you may consider adding more of white shades and some splashes of color.

Don’t avoid necessary furnishings. Make sure you don’t stay away from buying furniture just because there is not enough space in the house. You must however take the right measurements and get furniture that fit well in the area. The key is to make the most of the area available and still have enough furniture for your guests to sit. Choose a queen size bed instead of California King, and get some small comfy chairs and sofas instead of the large ones.

Do get the required storage solutions. When you have a small studio, the first thing to remember is that you don’t cramp the space with thing you do not require at all. Other stuff can be neatly kept in the storage solutions. So, do some smart shopping and get a bed with a storage space, and coffee tables with hidden spaces. This will go a long way in making your place look neat and uncluttered.

Remember that improvisation is an important thing when living in a studio apartment. For example, your book case can be made into a makeshift side table; or your sofa can be used as a make-shift bed when you have guests at home.
